Coach Asma's Postcard : My trip to Jakarta
After 5 months of waiting, finally my trip to Jakarta is here! Yup, myself and three other friends had bought the flight ticket to Jakarta in January during the AirAsia low price promotion. But with proper planning, strong determination and of course God’s will, all four of us were able to go and experience Jakarta. The trip is made even sweeter as this year marked our 10th year of friendship and sisterhood, starting from our orientation in UTP. So it’s a good way to celebrate our friendship by going on a journey together.
We were in Jakarta for 3 days, with one day spent sight-seeing Bogor, the Safari, Puncak, the Tangkuban Parahu volcano crater and ended with some shopping in Bandung.
In Jakarta, it was about experiencing the city - the insane traffic, the streets and the people. They all add up to the charms of the city. I would never describe Jakarta as beautiful; however it does have some quirkiness that is quite engaging.
Exploring Jakarta
Shopping is great in Jakarta, especially if you like to shop for “kebaya sulam”, “mukena” (kain telekung), and wedding stuff (wedding cards, ornaments, etc).
Some traveling tips on Jakarta :
1. If possible, try to get a contact in Jakarta, and ask for his/her help to get accommodation. You can get it much, much cheaper as it will be quoted in IDR. If you book from here, they’ll quote you in USD instead.
2. Plan your trip well to ensure you fully maximize your trip. We actually plan the trip right up to the timing, cost and things to bring.
All taxis in Jakarta have meters. But you need to make sure they use them to avoid being cheated. I recommend the BlueBird taxi. They’re more reliable and comfortable. Plus they only use Toyota Vios.
3. Try to avoid eating at the roadside. Cleanliness and halalness may be questionable. And drink bottled water only.
4. Lastly, be extra careful with your things, especially your wallet.
